About Trail Mountain Electric

Employee-owned. Utah-headquartered. Built around master electricians who care what they leave behind.

Founded in 2008 by Carter Whitfield, Trail Mountain Electric is now an employee-owned, 47-licensed-electrician contractor serving Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and Nevada. We've delivered 2,400+ projects without a marketing department — because owners and GCs come back, and they refer.

Our story

From one truck in Heber City to the Mountain West's mission-critical electrical partner.

Carter Whitfield started Trail Mountain Electric in 2008 with three master electricians and a clear thesis: the Mountain West deserves an electrical contractor that treats every project — a $14,000 panel upgrade and a $40M data center alike — with the same project-controls discipline.

Eighteen years later, that thesis has produced a $640M+ commercial installed-value track record, a sub-0.78 EMR, three regional warehouses, and a service bench staffed 24/7/365 with master electricians, not an answering service. We're an employee-owned ESOP, which is why our turnover sits at half the industry average and why the same superintendent who started a project closes it.

We don't chase volume — we chase repeat business. Roughly 70% of our annual commercial revenue is repeat work with the same owners and GCs, and our talent pipeline runs through the Utah and Idaho apprentice programs we've sponsored since 2014.

What we believe

Three values, no asterisks.

If a value isn't operational — if it doesn't show up in scheduling, hiring, or the way a crew leaves a panel — we don't claim it.

Safety is non-negotiable.

Every electrician is OSHA 30 certified and NFPA 70E qualified. Our EMR has been below 0.78 for four straight reporting years — top quartile nationally. We run monthly safety stand-downs and quarterly arc-flash refreshers without exception.

We self-perform.

100% of our feeder, branch, lighting, and life-safety work is done by W-2 electricians on our payroll. Subs only get involved for specialty engineering scope, and we manage them under our prime contract.

Documentation is part of the deliverable.

Owners receive a digital project binder at closeout: as-builts, panel schedules, NETA reports, arc-flash labels, generator load-bank certificates, and warranty registration. The same binder is the start of the maintenance history.

Leadership

The people who own the work.

Our directors are master electricians, licensed PEs, and credentialed safety pros — promoted from the field, not parachuted in.
